WDP Northern Classic
The WDP Charity Golf Outing, now known as the "WDP Northern Classic," began in 1987 and was originally formed to benefit the Muscular Distrophy Association. After ten years of supporting the MDA and raising over a half million dollars for the worthy cause, the outing committee made the decision to focus on more local needs, including Homes for our Troops and other US Military organizations and individuals in our area, Olivia's Gift, Michigan SIDS, the Food Bank of SC Michigan, and various other local individuals, families, and organizations. Over the years the outing has grown tremendously and is now a two day event at Crystal Mountain Resort in northern Michigan.
In 2011, the outing donated $50,000 to the Food Bank of SC Michigan, benefing the Kids' After-School Pack Program in particular, with additional distributions made to Andy's Angels, the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, and other local causes. The Kids' After-School Pack Program targets children from low-income families who are at risk of going hungry over the weekend. Once each week over the school year, kids are given special backpacks that are filled with non-perishable food. For more information on this program, please visit www.foodbankofscm.org.
This year the WDP Northern Classic will again be benefitting the Food Bank of SC MI as the primary beneficiary. For more informatioin on the outing or its recipients, please visit www.wdpnorthernclassic.org.
